Copy & Move Structure for ProjectWise

Users

The tool is intended for ProjectWise administrators and delegated users who need to prepare or transfer a folder structure between selected Stage or folder roots.

Using this tool requires an active ProjectWise session, permission to read the source structure, and permission to create the target structure in the selected location.

Problem

Manually recreating similar project or stage structures is slow and error-prone. With larger folder trees, it is important to know in advance what will be created, where it will be created, and which rules will be transferred.

Copy & Move Structure turns this into a controlled workflow. The user selects the source and target, reviews a generated copy plan, and starts structure creation only after review.

How the application works

The user first selects the source Stage or folder structure. They then select the target Stage or folder under which the new structure should be created.

Before any write operation, the copy plan is prepared. This step loads the source structure, evaluates target inheritance, and prepares a preview of the rules that will be applied.

After reviewing the plan, the user can start the copy operation. The operation creates folders in the target location and then applies the relevant workflow/state ACL rules.

The application copies folder structures only; it does not transfer documents, physical files, versions, or document sets. If an error occurs, the operation stops and target folders already created are not removed automatically, so reviewing the plan before writing is an important part of the process.
